FARMERS can get the dirt on how new European environmental rules will affect them at a country show next week.

The New Forest and Hampshire County Show will take place at New Park, Brockenhurst, from Monday, July 28 to Thursday, July 31.

Rural Payments Agency spokesman Arik Dondi said a new leaflet, which included information about the changes to the European Common Agricultural Policy, would be available at the show.

He said: ‘This leaflet explains what we know so far about the greening rules and will be useful if you’re a farmer, an agent or an agronomist.

‘We’re giving this information as early as we can, because you need to think about greening now.’

Mr Dondi said the leaflet also had information about the Basic Payment Scheme, which was to replace the Single Payment Scheme next year.

‘If farmers are going to claim BPS it’s important they start thinking about the greening rules now, in case they have to change anything on their holding,’ he added.
