FAST internet connections are a step closer to reality after a council has signed a deal with BT.
Hampshire County Council says 57,000 businesses and homes will benefit from a £13.8m deal it has signed with the communications firm to provide a high-speed network across the county.
One of the first places to see the improvements will be the Solent Enterprise Zone at the former Daedalus airfield in Lee-on-the-Solent.
The council says that at least 90 per cent of premises will be given access to super-fast broadband by the end of 2015.
Cllr Ken Thornber, the leader of Hampshire County Council, welcomed the news.
He said: ‘I am very pleased BT can now start work on putting in the necessary infrastructure that will benefit so many businesses and households.’
