DOZENS of local businesses have been hailed for helping to support older people in Hampshire.

Senior members of Hampshire County Council and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation heaped praise on the 32 firms who have donated to the Businesses Supporting Older People Fund.

So far more than £60,000 has been donated after the fund was set up to help local businesses give something back to the community.

Portsmouth-based firm Mountjoy Construction, Building and Maintenance is among the businesses who have supported the fund. Angela Purse, business development manager, said: ‘As a local business we want to support people and communities. Donating to the fund has enabled us to do this – we can see the difference that our support makes.’

Councillor Felicity Hindson, Hampshire County Council’s executive member for adult social care, said: ‘I am delighted that the initiative has proved to be such a success. The Business Supporting Older People Fund offers a practical way of helping older people.’
