A GLOBAL internet security company has expanded into larger offices in Fareham – bringing with it 15 new jobs.

Smoothwall has taken over a 10,000sq ft unit at Eagle Point, in Segensworth.

It has moved from its offices in Botley Road, Park Gate, after it outgrew its base.

Ian Parrett, marketing officer at Smoothwall, said the open-plan nature of Eagle Point, along with its excellent connectivity, made the site attractive for expansion.

Smoothwall, which started in 2001 in Fareham, has seen considerable growth as more and more companies, authorities and schools go to them to provide firewalls and a safer and more secure way for employees and pupils to view the internet.

It employs around 50 people in Fareham, with plans to recruit another 15.

Michael Marks, Smoothwall’s operations director, said: ‘With the challenge of new markets and products, we needed a flexible location with easy access, plenty of room for growth and an open-plan environment that we could make our own.

‘Fareham and the surround areas have always provided us with a wealth of excellent technical skills, which we intend to continue using as we expand our development and technical teams.’

The company also has offices in Leeds, where around 35 admin and sales staff are based, and in North Carolina, USA.

Around 35 people are employed in America after its expansion in 2008.

Lambert Smith Hampton secured Smoothwall as the tenant at Eagle Point on behalf of Greenhills Asset Management.

Andy Hodgkinson, from LSH, said: ‘We decided to let Eagle Point on a floor-by-floor basis and Smoothwall has taken the first and second floors well ahead of plan, which is indicative of the level of demand in the market at present.

‘Negotiations are under way to let the 5,000sq ft of ground floor space to another technology company.’
