A DIARY, a leather swivel chair and a surfboard.

These are just some of the things left behind by Travelodge customers in Portsmouth during the last 12 months.

The company has released details of items left at its lost and found office.

Items left in Portsmouth include the diary of a 13-year-old boy, half of a written novel, a castle made from sponge cake, a 24-carat gold necklace worth £5,000, a surfboard and a leather swivel chair.

Shakila Ahmed, a spokeswoman for Travelodge, said: ‘What is becoming evident after speaking to our customers is that the pace of modern life is fast and furious. We are controlled by time and eager to get from A to B therefore valuable possessions are being forgotten.’
