A KEY event on the marine industry’s calendar has attracted a top turnout in its fourth year.
The Marine Advertising Agency press lunch in association with Dean & Reddyhoff was held at Haslar Marina, Gosport and was attended by more than 120 journalists, editors and industry experts.
Agency director Mike Shepherd said: ‘This year’s huge turnout shows that the MMA press lunch has proved its value as a key networking event on the industry calendar and cements MAA’s position at the heart of the industry.’
The event was kicked off with a pre-lunch tour of Portsmouth Harbour on board Geoff Holt’s Wet Wheels.
The tour showed how the harbour is preparing for the imminent arrival of the America’s Cup World Series and showed off what Gosport’s waterfront has to offer.
‘The Haslar Marina was an ideal environment for us to showcase our clients,’ said Mr Shepherd.
Throughout the day the focus for those interviewed was about supporting increased participation in the industry.
Mr Shepherd said: ‘We are delighted that the event in particular has highlighted a desire to boost participation in our sport and industry, starting with young people, something I feel very passionate about.
This was highlighted by the roll of events like Gosport Marine Festival, which aims to get 1,000 young people to see a future in the marine industry or its sports.
‘I believe it’s all our responsibility to inspire a generation to get onto and into the water,’ said Mr Shepherd.
Also on the agenda was the title sponsor for the Marine Industry Regatta which was revealed by managing director of Crewsaver Ross Wilkinson.
Manufacturer Survitec will take over the sponsorship of the joint marine leisure and commercial marine industries regatta from Crewsaver.
MAA also announced their continued support for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.
