MORE than 600 homes were left without power after an explosion in an electricity substation.

The incident happened at 7pm at a substation in Bedhampton Way, Leigh Park and knocked out the power to 670 SSE customers.

Firefighters from Havant went to the scene and put out a fence that was on fire.

Energy supplier SSE brought in mobile generators and a welfare van was parked on Stone Square, Leigh Park.

The power was restored at around 2am today.
