A POST Office will be open an extra 50 hours after a makeover.

The Lee-on-the-Solent branch will undergo refurbishment at the end of the month and will be modernised with new counters.

It will be closed for eight days during the refurbishment but once open, hours will be extended with the office opening significantly earlier and closing later. It will also be open all day Sunday and Saturday afternoons.

The branch, located in The Southern Co-operative store, on High Street, will get three new serving counters and two new screened counters between 9am and 5.30pm.

Select services will be available at a separate counter from 7am until 9am and 5.30pm until 10pm, Monday to Saturday and on Sundays 10am until 4pm.

Gary Trodd, Post Office services manager at The Southern Co-operative, said: ‘The Southern Co-operative is very supportive of the changes.

‘It’s seen as a positive move forward for customers by making the Post Office’s services more conveniently available whenever our store is open.’

At the Lee-on-the-Solent Post Office customers can do everything from Post Office Card Account cash withdrawals and sending funds abroad to paying bills, buying holiday money and getting insurance,

Customers can also access a wide range of Post Office mail services and banking services.

The modernisation of the branch comes two months after the last bank in the area closed it doors.

HSBC shut its branch on High Street after footfall numbers declined. Business and residents will now use the Post Office for some banking services such as online banking cash deposits, withdrawals and bill payments.

Adrian Skinner, Post Office area manager said: ‘We know how important Post Office services are to residents in Lee-on-the-Solent we are confident this vibrant modern Post Office, at the heart of the community, will be popular.

‘The modernisation is part of a major government investment programme enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy to the end of the decade.’

The Post Office will be closed on January 28 and will reopen on February 6.

Other branches available nearby include in Stubbington, on The Green, and in Alverstoke, on Village Road.
