A new management and training course is being launched this month as part of a joint venture between Fareham College and Fareport Training Organisation.

The Solent Leadership Academy, supported by the Solent LEP, aims to raise the skill levels of managers in the Solent area through the provision of work-based training supplemented by regular master classes covering a range of management topics.

Planned to run over two years, the initiative is designed to increase the proportion of local managers with a Level 4 and 5 leadership and management qualification, with training aimed at supervisors and middle managers who are looking to develop their skills in order to prepare for senior management roles.

Marinos Paphitis, chairman of Fareport Training Organisation, said: ‘Managers who undertake this training will develop core management techniques to drive better results, become more proficient in their ability to lead, motivate, inspire and develop the skills for strategic leadership as well as day-to-day management.

‘Applicable to any sector or industry, this training is ideal for those already working in a managerial role and looking to consolidate their experience into a recognised qualification to increase their prospects and contribution to business.’

Principal of Fareham College, Nigel Duncan said: ‘Investing in developing the management skills of the work force is a key way of ensuring the future success of a business.

‘The qualifications offered by the Solent Leadership Academy are designed to provide clear, measureable benefits to career-minded professionals who are looking to progress and take on greater responsibility.

‘It also offers businesses a cost-effective way to develop a highly qualified, ambitious work force that will undoubtedly lead to overall business improvement and increased productivity.’

As well as delivering qualifications, the Leadership Academy aims to provide highly flexible training.

Learning is primarily work based, with regular support provided by tutors via an e-portfolio and regular visits to meet with the learner.
