THE issue of trying to create extra space for cyclists on Portsmouth’s roads will be debated this evening.

Portsmouth Cycle Forum is holding its annual general meeting at the John Pounds Centre, in Portsea, from 7.30pm.

The group plans to create two committees specifically tasked with promoting safe cycling to school and the need for additional room on the road for bike users.

It comes after the forum voiced its frustrations in response to the decision by leader of Portsmouth City Council, Cllr Donna Jones, to axe 100m of bus lane into the city centre because of complaints from drivers over congestion.

The forum last year launched its City to Share strategy in a bid to change the way Portsmouth’s streets are designed to accommodate people on bikes.
