THE magic of Christmas came to two areas last night as families turned out to see the switching on of festive lights.

There was plenty of fun outside shops in Allaway Avenue, Paulsgrove, as children counted down from 10 before the lights came on. Father Ian Newton of St Michaels and All Angels Church said a prayer and blessed the Christmas tree. Local beaver and cub scout groups also sang carols.

A procession of lanterns marked the switching on of the lights in Lee-on-the-Solent. Hundreds turned out for the event which featured a carol service and continental Christmas market.
