THE final countdown has begun for the opening of the new Tesco Extra store next to Fratton Park.

Building work on the site has now reached completion as construction firm McLaughlin and Harvey has handed over the keys to store manager Jon Roberts.

The store will bring in 350 new members of staff, many who live within walking distance to the store.

Mr Roberts, said: ‘We are really excited to receive the keys.

‘The team have been looking forward to moving in and preparing the store for our customers.

‘It will be all hands on deck over the next couple of weeks as we fill the shelves with a wide selection of products that our customers will love.’

Customers are invited to join the launch from 10am on Thursday, November 12 and enjoy free cake and refreshments.

They will also be able to enter a competition, which gives customers the chance to win their shopping for a year, by filling out an entry form in store.

The new store will also launch FareShare FoodCloud for charities in the local area.

It will be open from 6am to midnight Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
