A PORTSMOUTH pub is to celebrate 50 years of being run by the same family.

The Royal Standard, on Edinburgh Road, Landport, was taken over by Ruby Hardwick in 1961 and has stayed in the family ever since.

Ruby’s granddaughter, Sarah Wood, is now the landlord and is hosting a string of events, including performances by bands, sing-a-longs and a casino table, to celebrate their anniversary tomorrow.

The knees-up will also be raising funds for the RNLI.

Sarah Wood, who took over the pub in 2001, said: ‘We don’t usually have bands or music on in here so this will be quite an event.

‘Hopefully everyone will really enjoy themselves and raise good a bit of cash at the same time.’
