THE number of empty shops in Havant borough has stayed roughly the same, according to an economic report.
There are 64 empty units across the area – almost a tenth of all shops.
In September last year the figure was 63.
The report by Havant Borough Council shows the number of empty shops in Havant town centre has decreased slightly, from 25 in September last year to 22 in September this year.
In Waterlooville, it has increased from 15 to 19.
The report also details the top 10 firms in Havant.
The biggest employer is Southern Electric, with 2,600 people working at the call centre in Penner Road.
South Downs College is second, with 1,500 employees, and Asda at Bedhampton is third with 850 people.
This is followed by Tesco and Xyratex, which both employ around 650 workers.
The report shows that 2,407 people were unemployed in August this year – just over three per cent of the working population. More than 1,600 of those unemployed were men.
