SOUTHAMPTON Airport has launched a campaign to find women to take up several vacancies for female security officer roles which need to be filled next month.

The airport says it has been inundated with male applicants.

But legally, the airport needs female as well as male officers.

Head of security Simon Young said: ‘We always have far more men than women applying for security roles, but as we have a legal requirement to have female officers searching female passengers.

‘It’s vital to the smooth running of the airport that we have a good balance.

‘Full training is given to successful applications and they can expect plenty of variety in the role once they start.’

Linda Rogers, a security officer, added: ‘I’ve worked at the airport in various roles since 2003 and this is one of the most interesting jobs I have done.

‘It’s challenging, but I love interacting with passengers and playing an important role in the safety and security of the airport.’

It is looking for full-time or part-time workers.
