A LONG-AWAITED move to a new Post Office has been held up at the last minute

Gosport Post Office at 136 High Street was due to close on Tuesday for the final time before moving to 51-52 High Street.

The new post office was set to open on Wednesday.

On Monday afternoon the post office said there had been a change of plan, and that in fact Monday would be the final day at 136 High Street, with 51-52 High Street opening on Tuesday.

This was because of ‘unforeseen contractual issues’ which meant that 136 High Street would not be available.

However, late on Monday evening the post office said that the plan had changed again and that after talks with the landlord, 136 High Street would stay open on Tuesday, and possibly for longer.

The move is being put off because a leak has been discovered in the roof of 51-52 High Street which needs to be repaired.

A spokeswoman said: ‘Talks with the landlord have allowed the branch [136 High Street] to remain open for a further couple of days or potentially longer, which will determine the relocation date, whether this takes place before or after re-roofing work at the new premises.’
