MORE than 70 jobs will be created in the Fareham area after two expanding technology firms merged.

The new company is called OneCom, formed after Premier Telecom Group and Business Phones Direct, which are both based in Whiteley, combined.

The new business, which remains based on the Solent Business Park, has a combined turnover of £40m, and is accredited partners of telecommunications giants Vodafone, BlackBerry, Microsoft, HTC and Mitel.

Once the new staff swell the ranks, it will also employ more than 300 people.

Darren Ridge, chief executive of OneCom, said: ‘We are in the throes of a communications revolution.

‘The massive advances in communications technology have created demand for an intelligent and converged approach for all businesses, SMEs and corporates.

‘It is this demand which has been so exciting for both Premier Telecom and BPD in recent years – this move will ensure we can continue to respond to it.’

Mike Gilmour, the firm’s senior business development manager, said: ‘I’m truly excited by what the future holds for OneCom and our customers. The communications industry continues to evolve at a blistering pace, and this merger puts us in a perfect position to deliver the next generation of products and services, with continued support from our Fareham-based account management team.’
