RAGS have literally been turned to riches, as charities have received a financial boost from a clothing and textile recycling company.
Bag It Up has been supporting charities across the UK since it began in 2005 and has raised £7m.
One of the charities it supports is the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, which has received £2.7m to date.
Sherie Williams-Ellen, from the charity, said ‘We’re always grateful to our supporters for choosing to recycle their textiles in support of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
‘The £2.7m raised through our recycling scheme since 2006 is a huge achievement and helps us to continue providing a life-saving service to our community.’
According to resource resolution charity Wrap, around 350,000 tonnes of used clothing go to landfill in the UK every year.
All of Bag It Up’s partners are UK-based regional charities, including air ambulances, hospices and sporting associations.
