MORE than 1,000 people have snapped up active memberships thanks to a new activity programme.

BH Live began a partnership with Portsmouth City Council on February 1 to manage seven of the city’s sport, leisure and event venues; Mountbatten Leisure Centre, Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre, Portsmouth Tennis Centre, Charter Community Sports Centre, Wimbledon Park Sports Centre, Pyramids Centre and Eastney Swimming Pool.

More than 1,000 people have already taken advantage of its introductory membership offers, with 300 people benefiting from concessions such as money saving packages for young people and people on low income.

Claire Oatridge, BH Live’s regional head of operations, said: ‘The appetite across the city to get more active and ultimately live a healthier lifestyle is strong and we have been very encouraged by the overwhelming response of local residents during this first month.’

Cllr Linda Symes, Portsmouth City Council’s member for leisure, said: ‘It’s fantastic news that so many have already taken advantage of these offers.’

Memberships start at £24 per month.
