EAST HAMPSHIRE MP Damian Hinds will be getting a close-up look at the district’s tourist industry.

The MP will visit two busy visitor centres to mark English Tourism Week.

On March 9 he will be working in the morning at the Tourist Information Centre at the library in Petersfield.

In the afternoon he will be at Gilbert White’s House and Garden and the Oates Collection in Selborne.

He said: ‘I’m expecting a busy time and hoping to see plenty of visitors.

‘Tourism is very important for the economy of East Hampshire and this event is a good way for me to experience the hard work that is making the industry a success.’

Flair Kitching, assistant manager of Gilbert White’s House and Garden and the Oates Collection, said: ‘We will be very busy preparing for our official gallery opening which takes place on March 10.

‘Our new interactive gallery celebrates the life of Captain Lawrence Oates who undertook the epic journey of discovery to the South Pole with Captain Scott. 2012 is the centenary of the Scott Antarctic Expedition.’
