THE Belgian subsidiary of the Chemring Group – which has its international headquarters in Whiteley, – has been awarded a $145m multi-year contract.

The deal will see Mecar supply medium and large calibre ammunition to an unidentified customer in the Middle East, beginning next year.

Chemring is an international leader in defensive countermeasures.

Mecar, which was acquired by Chemring in September, is a niche manufacturer and supplies ammunition particularly for modern, light armoured vehicles.

Dr David Price, the chief executive of Chemring, said: ‘I am delighted by the continued success of Mecar.

‘This contract will provide a firm foundation for the business over the next few years.’
