A NEW organisation has been launched with the aim of driving economic prosperity in the Solent region.

Business Solent is a business engagement organisation, and was launched at the Rose Bowl in Hedge End yesterday.

Its aims are to connect business leaders with one another in the region.

It is building on the success of Business Southampton, expanding to develop a regional remit to promote the Solent as the best place to live, work, invest, visit, study and enjoy.

The area covered by Business Solent includes Portsmouth and Chichester, the Isle of Wight, Southampton, the New Forest, Bournemouth and Poole.

During the past three years Business Southampton has connected business leaders through the Champion Programme to collectively challenge, address and influence decisions and opportunities for the Southampton city region.

With the changing economic and political landscape there has been increasing demand for an expansion of the Business Southampton model, which has resulted in the creation of Business Solent.
