A NEW Pompey megastore is set to open by the middle of this month, it has been revealed.

The new shop is on the corner of Goldsmiths Avenue, close to Fratton Park.

It replaces the closed megastore in Rodney Road.

The land at Rodney Road is owned by former Pompey owner Sacha Gaydamak, who charges the club rent.

In a bid to save money, the club has moved its staff from offices in Rodney Road back to offices in Frogmore Road.

Now, the club’s shop has followed suit.

Operations director Lucius Peart said he hoped the new store would be open in time for the Chelsea home game on July 16.

He added: ‘We don’t want to rush the refurbishment as we want to get it absolutely right.

‘We have a shop at Frogmore Road, and we anticipate that will eventually be open on match-days only.

‘We still have the city centre shop, but we need a big one near the stadium because not all fans live in Portsmouth and want to go to Commercial Road.’
