A NEW department store is looking for a local charity to support after it opens later this month.

When Debenhams opens in Fareham Shopping Centre on June 16, staff will hold regular fundraising events for their adopted cause.

Store manager Andrew Birt said: ‘With 98 per cent of our new team coming from Fareham, we’re going to be a very local store and everyone is keen to do their bit for the town.

‘The coming year will be very exciting for us as we enjoy getting used to our new store, so we’re hoping to make it a bit special for a local charity too.

‘Every 12 weeks we’ll host a fundraising event, such as asking friends and family to sponsor us to wear fancy dress for a day or holding a quiz night. They’ll be a fun way to interact with customers and local people, but have the ultimate aim of doing something positive and raising money for our adopted charity.’
