CHICHESTER’S new John Lewis at Home store has already been a big hit with shoppers since it opened before Easter.

Thousands of customers descended on the new shop on the Portfield Retail Park within hours of its opening.

And the queues to get into the store’s car park have not abated since, spilling over into the nearby Sainsbury’s.

Branch manager Claire Dunkason said: ‘We couldn’t have asked for a better reception from our customers and we hope to see this continue as we establish ourselves further in the local community.’

The first customers to come through the door were Holly Marks and Imogen Pilcher who queued for an hour, ahead of the opening. The first purchase was made by Muriel Houseman, who bought an official London 2012 mug.
