HARD HATS and steel toe-capped boots were the order of the day as councillors took a look at the progress of a new £9m leisure centre.
Work to build the swimming pool and leisure centre in Sarisbury Green started six months ago and has reached a point where the steel frame is in place which shows the form of the building.
It is hoped that the centre, which was named Holly Hill Leisure Centre by 500 local school children, will open next summer.
Councillor Trevor Cartwright, chairman of the working group for Holly Hill said: ‘There has been excellent progress made so far with the leisure centre project and this marks another significant step on the road to completion.’
Phil Samson, project manager for Balfour Beatty which is building the centre, said: ‘This is both an exciting and challenging project to work on and will be a real pleasure to hand over for the benefit of all the community.’
As well as a 25m pool with six swimming lanes, a learner pool, gym with at least 100 pieces of equipment, exercise room and dance studio, the facilities will see two new football pitches, a children’s play area and a multi-use games area.
