FASHION giant New Look have chosen Cascades Shopping Centre, Portsmouth, to be where they locate one of the new shops in October, creating approximately 10 jobs.

The decision comes amid vast success at their London store, at Oxford Circus.

Menswear sales at the store increased by 67 per cent, after redesigning the way they deliver the clothing range at the beginning of this year, with it being completely divided from ladies.

The store will be divided from the current womanswear shop, on Commercial Road, and will open in October this year.

Will Smith, spokesperson for New Look, says the company was seeing healthy profits, notably with the men’s department.

He said: ‘We have a store within a store at Oxford Circus which has been a huge success for the company.

We are very proud of the improvements made to our offer over the past two years

Roger Wightman, chief creative officer

‘Portsmouth is one of the top men’s markets in the UK and so the company have decided to position themselves there.

‘These stores are all about offering a different environment for male shoppers.

‘Opening these stores is a way of showcasing our range with a different environment.’

In May, 90 per cent of the company was snapped up by billionaire, Christo Wiese, for £780 million.

Mr Wiese bought the high street chain, through his investment vehicle Brait, after years of searching for a major British brand.

Will Smith added: ‘We have Christopher Englinde [H&M’s chief operating officer] leaving H&M to become our global director of menswear. He will start in September.’

New Look was founded in 1962 and is currently the second- most popular value retailer for women’s clothing.

Roger Wightman, chief creative officer, said: ‘Menswear is a key strategic priority for New Look, and the opening of menswear standalone stores represents a natural next step for us.

‘We are very proud of the improvements made to our offer over the past two years – the opening of menswear standalone stores will allow us to more fully showcase the enhanced quality of our product ranges.

‘As a business we are very excited about the prospects of future growth.’

Standalone men’s stores will also open at Wigan and the Trafford Centre in Manchester.

Anders Kristiansen, chief executive officer, said: ‘These strong results demonstrate New Look’s ongoing progress during a quarter in which we have changed ownership and refinanced the business track.

‘Whilst the consumer environment remains unpredictable, we continue to manage the business accordingly.’
