The opening of this new Sainsbury’s Local went down well with customers.

The store opened in Bridge Road, Park Gate near Fareham, with a number of local dignitaries at the event.

The mayor and mayoress of Fareham Mike and Anne Ford and Lara Bull, the chief executive of The Rainbow Centre, were there to celebrate the occasion.

The store replaces the trailer shop Indespension and is in the Park Gate centre next to the Co-op.

Manager Alex Wellspring said: ‘It was a successful opening. It’s been busy and we’ve had good feedback from customers.

‘People are delighted, more than anything, to have a choice of where to shop and they can get it without driving six or seven miles.’

The store’s charity partner for the year will be The Rainbow Centre.
