UNEMPLOYMENT across the area has fallen over the past month.

Figures compiled by the Office for National Statistics show that the number of people claiming jobseekers allowance has fallen in Portsmouth from 2,253 to 2,170.

In Havant, it’s fallen from 1,067 to 1,050.

Claims in Gosport went from 682 to 656.

However in Fareham there was a small rise with its numbers going from 424 up to 459.

Across the country, the overall figure has also dropped with 626,247 claiming jobseekers allowance in July - down from 630,683 in June.
