AROUND 1.25m barrels of oil are likely to be under the ground of a woodland, a report has shown.

Research at Markwells Wood, at Forestside, near Rowlands Castle, has concluded the site is worth going into commercial production.

A drill was installed several years ago to explore the potential, and now UK Oil & Investments Plc is planning to go into an 18-year production period.

The oil is part of the same reservoir that is extracted at Horndean.
