A FORMER Royal Navy munitions store in Gosport has gone under the auctioneer’s hammer for £44,000.
The 3,000sq ft premises in woods off Britannia Way, Priddy’s Hard, was among 29 lots on sale through Clive Emson, the regional land and property auctioneers, on Thursday.
The location is near a similar facility which sold earlier in February for £48,000 after igniting a bidding war.
Rob Marchant, auctioneer, said: ‘Once again we saw keen interest in this particular site by investors and it is a sign of the times as property is back in favour following the six-year downturn.
‘My gavel fell on a bid which was £9,000 above the lower range of the guide price.’
Priddy’s Hard was the epicentre of the Royal Navy’s gunpowder stores, courtesy of the Board of Ordnance and dating back to the mid-18th century.
Details of the new owner were not disclosed.
Mr Marchant said: ‘We are not privy to any plans the new owner may or may not have for this unusual piece of real estate.’
