Mutiny Festival brings £2.7m into Portsmouth economy

THE second of a series of ships being built in Portsmouth for the Royal Navy of Oman was officially handed over today.

Al Rahmani, a Khareef Class corvette, was built by BAE Systems and handed over to the Omani Royal Navy in a ceremony at Portsmouth Naval Base.

The ship is the second of three ships that are equipped to defend against both surface and air threats.

Mick Ord, managing director of BAE systems maritime, said: ‘ It’s been a fantastic day handing over this great ship to the Royal Navy of Omani.

‘They are a great customer of ours and I was lucky enough to go over to Oman and see what they are doing.

‘The third sister ship is due to be ready for spring next year.’
