A PETITION has been launched against plans to turn a former Conservative club into a lapdancing venue.

Portsmouth City Council had dismissed Elegance’s bid to move from Granada Road, Southsea to a building next to the Wedgewood Rooms in Albert Road – but it has gone to appeal to the UK’s planning inspectorate.

Lib Dem councillor Michael Andrewes is now calling on residents to back his campaign against the application in the hope it will once again be thrown out.

Cllr Andrewes said: ‘This is a totally unsuitable place for a lapdancing club near to schools and in the middle of a residential area. I would ask local people to back the petition so the national Planning Inspectorate can know the strength of feeling against it.’
