WORKERS left with an uncertain future after the collapse of Phones 4U have been offered jobs by Whiteley communications provider OneCom.
OneCom, the UK’s largest business-to-business communications provider, has taken on several former Phones 4U staff members following the mobile phone retailer’s move into administration last week.
Now the company says it is providing more jobs for those affected.
So far, OneCom has employed six ex-Phones 4U sales staff – including four at its headquarters in Whiteley.
Two were from the Phones 4U outlet in Whiteley, another from the Portsmouth branch and one from Southampton.
OneCom has also taken on two workers previously employed at Phones 4U at Camberley in Surrey.
OneCom is inviting current Phones 4U staff to send in their CVs as it looks to recruit more in the coming weeks.
OneCom chief executive Darren Ridge said: ‘We’re acutely aware of the impact the collapse of Phones 4U is having on its dedicated staff, who are finding themselves with an uncertain future through no fault of their own.
‘We’re pleased to have been able to take on some of these people in the few days following the collapse of Phones 4U.
‘As a growing and actively recruiting company, I’d invite applications from more.’
Yesterday, Phones 4U announced it was closing its stores in Commercial Road, Portsmouth, Whiteley Village, and North Street in Chichester.
OneCom, which provides mobile and fixed line connections and managed IT services, employs more than 400 staff across its offices in Whiteley, Southampton, Camberley, Brighton, Plymouth, Leeds, Telford, Norwich and Edinburgh.
OneCom was recently named in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 2014 as one of the country’s fastest-growing businesses.
The company offers full training and has a reputation for rewarding and investing in its staff – giving away £150,000 in bonuses to team members after the firm was named Vodafone’s Platinum Partner of the Year this summer.
