PLANS to transform fields into a business park are to move forward.

Portsmouth City Council’s Tory cabinet has given senior officers the authority to pursue the redevelopment of Dunsbury Hill Farm, off the A3(M) in Havant.

It is hoped the land, owned by the authority, will become a hub for firms specialising in electronic engineering.

Up to 3,500 jobs could be created and permission has already been given to build a road into the estate.

Council leader Donna Jones said: ‘This is a key strategic site.

‘It creates thousands and thousands of square metres of key employment land.

‘There is a lot of demand for employment space around the south coast.’

Council bosses will explore how to raise money through the project by either selling the site, letting the council develop it on its own before taking an income from business tenants, or entering into a joint venture with another organisation.

Grants and loans could be sought.
