Playgroup says thanks after donation from businessman

CHILDREN at a playgroup received an unusual donation from a businessman.

The group at Christ Church Hall, Widley, were delighted when Daryn Brewer presented them with 40 safety mugs, designed to safely contain parents’ and carers’ hot drinks.

Daryn, who owns estate agent Brewers Sales & Lettings, donated the mugs when he found out that the group’s leaders, volunteers Amanda Kind and Jackie Mumford, had been saving up subscription money to afford safer, practical covered mugs for the group meetings to replace regular breakable cups.

Daryn said: ‘A friend of mine attends this popular playgroup which has been running for over 15 years.

‘I grew up yards from the church and remember attending and loving community events there as a small boy.

‘I heard that Amanda and Jackie have been saving up the subs to get suitable plastic mugs to avoid breakages, accidental spills or potential scalds, but they were still a long way short.

‘I have two small children and their safety is paramount, so I gladly offered to source and help pay for these essential items.’

Amanda added: ‘Our Wednesday morning meeting is a great opportunity for adults to have a natter over a cup of tea while the children enjoy activities.

‘It’s a fun, busy environment and we always wanted to make it totally safe. Daryn’s kind involvement has enabled us to do this sooner, so we are very grateful.’
