THOUSANDS of tourists and important figures stay in its rooms every year.
But the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel took time out to celebrate its 30th anniversary with a glitzy reception yesterday afternoon.
Representatives from organisations and businesses joined hotel manager BJ Schreuder, staff and the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Cllr Cheryl Buggy for the bash in the building’s foyer.
The hotel was officially opened as a Holiday Inn in December 1980 and nostalgic photographs were included in a commemorative slideshow for guests to obeserve.
Long-serving staff members breakfast chef Brett Whitelock and assistant chief engineer Parvin Preema were recognised for starting work the day the hotel opened.
Wishing the establishment a happy birthday, Cllr Buggy said in her speech: ‘Thank you for all you have done employing local people and giving them a start to their careers.’
