Portsmouth Labour boss hits out over Royal Mail delivery changes

THE leader of Portsmouth's Labour group says the needs of residents have once again '˜taken second place' following the closure of two Royal Mail delivery offices.

The Royal Mail’s collection centres at Slindon Street in the city centre and in Northern Road, Cosham, shut yesterday and moved to one building at Voyager Park, an industrial estate in Copnor.

Customers have hit back saying the new move is a massive annoyance.

And their concerns have been shared by city Labour boss, Cllr Stephen Morgan.

Cllr Morgan, who represents Portsmouth’s Charles Dickens ward, said: ‘The Royal Mail’s delivery office on Slindon Street is a hugely popular and accessible service. I use the service regularly and residents have already raised their concerns with me about its loss.

‘With these changes to the postal service we see, yet again, the needs of the people in our city are taking second place.

‘We won the argument with the police and crime commissioner to safeguard a presence in the city centre, and now I want to work with the Post Office to see how the concerns of local people can be addressed.’
