THE MP for Portsmouth South has expressed her disappointment at British Cycling’s claims that it will be ‘impossible’ for the city to stage the Tour de France in 2019.

It comes after Jonny Clay, the body’s sport and membership director, ruled out the region getting any funding from the government for a bid to hold the race’s Grand Depart.

Mrs Drummond said: ‘This is disappointing news, but I know the city council will want to put together a bid which covers a spread of years, as successful bids for the Tour usually do, so perhaps it is not over.’
