MUSLIM leaders have hit out at the racist remarks which have surfaced on the Facebook page in the name of taxi driver Viv Young.

Mr Young, who represents hackney drivers and has a share in City Wide Taxis, has come under fire after offensive messages published under his name were exposed.

Suyeb Tanzam, one of the leading figures in Portsmouth’s Muslim community, said they would upset a lot of believers.

‘Those sort of comments would upset so many Muslim people, especially the young people,’ he said.

‘I have been fighting racism for many years, and you can’t stop everything.

‘People make jokes, that is a part of life. But you can’t tolerate things like this. We have to work together and respect each other and respect all faiths.

‘We must protect our cities and country.’
