AVERAGE property prices in Portsmouth have jumped by three per cent in one month.

Helen Asteris, southern area director at Fox & Sons, says the government’s help to buy scheme, which enables first-time buyers to get their foot on the housing ladder, is the main reason.

She said: ‘Portsmouth has seen average prices jump three per cent in one month to £151,515.

‘The ongoing regeneration of the city centre has fostered a new range of shops, bars and restaurants, boosting its popularity as an urban hub.’

Property prices in south Hampshire have increased by six per cent this year, and new buyer registrations are up by 41 per cent.

Ms Asteris said the market was showing no signs of slowing down.
