A BUCKLAND pub that has served the community for 36 years could be turned into a shop.

The Alexandra, in Wingfield Street, was sold by Punch Taverns to a private developer last month after it suffered a slump in trade.

The pub was on the market for £225,000 and the sale was handled by property firm Fleurets’ office in Hove. Lib Dem councillor Margaret Foster, who represents the area, said: ‘Unfortunately the pub fell into decline. The rumour mill in Buckland is that it’s going to become a shop. A few people have complained because there are a number of shops around here already.’ Punch Taverns was unable to say what the pub is being turned into. A spokeswoman said: ‘We can confirm that the Alexandra pub was sold in August.’
