THE Portsmouth Remploy factory, which provides work for disabled people, has been spared the axe.

Government funding, which the agency relies upon, is running out, but the Remploy board has decided that its Portsmouth outlet could exist without it.

It employs 15 people, of whom 13 are disabled.

Remploy is closing 36 of its 54 factories, with the loss of 1,752 jobs.
