ONLY one in 10 people in Portsmouth give themselves the top rating for energy efficiency, according to a new survey carried out by the Solent Green Deal.

The survey asked people to consider how insulated their home was and what energy saving measures they undertake, such as turning off heating, lights and electrical appliances when not in use.

New Forest residents came out on top as the most energy efficient in Hampshire.

Despite Portsmouth’s low score, councillor Darren Sanders, cabinet member for housing at Portsmouth City Council, says help is at hand.

He said: ‘The council is offering the Solent Green Deal to help households stay warm and well, and I am especially encouraging residents who may qualify to take advantage of free upgrades to their heating and insulation by contacting the council.’
