Portsmouth Tories quash debate over wave of cancelled meetings

A BID to hold a debate over the reasons why a wave of council meetings were cancelled last month was quashed.

Lib Dems Matthew Winnington and Ben Dowling raised concerns over the cancellation of full council, cabinet, health and social care and culture and leisure meetings due to a ‘lack of urgent business’. They feared it gave the impression the council wasn’t concerned about the needs of local people. But Tory council leader Donna Jones, backed by her group, voted for the matter to be discussed by a committee.
