A PRECINCT Post Office will be closing and moving into a newsagents.

The Post Office, in West Street, Portchester, is to move to Martin’s, also in West Street, Portchester, on May 1 at 1pm.

The current Post Office at 88 West Street will close on Thursday, April 30 at 5.30pm.

The new Portchester Post Office will have a terminal sitting alongside the till and Post Office services will be available during the store’s opening hours, Monday and Thursday: 7.30am until 6pm; Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday: 7.30am until 6.30pm; Sunday: 8am until 1pm.

The opening hours will increase by an extra 24 hours a week, including Sunday morning and Saturday afternoon.

Will Russell, regional manager, said: ‘We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents. We are confident this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular. The modernisation is part of a major government investment programme.’

The branch will also open earlier and close later every day.

Customers will be able to access a wide range of Post Office and mails services, including special delivery, local collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals, Post Office Card Account withdrawals, send funds abroad using Moneygram, pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.
