NEARLY 3,000 homes in the Fareham area were left without electricity early this morning.
A problem with the underground cable network led to about 2,800 homes being cut off at 6.15am.
Engineers were able to bring most homes back online by about 8am, leaving 600 homes around the Abbey Road and Dalewood Road areas still cut off.
Those final homes were restored to the grid by 8.45am.
Duncan MacDonald, a spokesman for Southern Electric said: ‘We would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by this.
‘We had engineers on site as quickly as possible and we will be investigating further to establish what caused this.’
