A gold and white suggestion for the Spinnaker Tower rebranding was praised today.

The alternative was proposed by Twitter user Ellis Hampton who published his own artist’s impression on his @EllisHampton account.

It uses the gold in new sponsor Emirates’ corporate branding rather than the red shown in the company’s plans.

That led to a huge outcry after the deal was announced last Friday. Now Portsmouth City Council says it is rethinking the design as a result of protests.

Today The Portsmouth Society praised the alternative proposed by Ellis.

It said in a reply tweet: ‘Ellis, what a great design! Our City needs you! Well done!’
