Sweet lovers can go back to their childhood with a range of traditional sweets in a new store at Cascades Shopping Centre in Portsmouth.

Sweets 4 U is Kevin Warne’s second store in the city and he is hoping it will prove just as popular as his first, Hilborne Traditional Sweets in Southsea.

The father-of-three said: ‘I decided to open a traditional sweet shop as a gift to the youth of today who didn’t have what we had as kids.

‘It was all about bringing back something from my childhood.

‘I stocked up on all the retro sweets and old-fashioned things and it went down really well.’

His shop stocks everything from pineapple cubes, sherbet lemons and bon bons, to American favourites like Baby Ruth, Hersheys and Nerds.

The 49-year-old, whose partner Kim Hilborne runs the other store in Albert Road, is so passionate about his business he says nothing would stop him running it. Mr Warne said: ‘If I won the lottery I’d still keep the shops open. I really, really enjoy what I do.

‘We have great fun with it – we dress up as Santa and do deliveries on Christmas Eve and that service was fully booked within half an hour of going up online.

‘We also do a home delivery service so people can satisfy their cravings at all times, as well as sweet hampers, party cones and other gift items.’

He has also brought back the penny sweet, which has already proved popular.
