GLOBAL defence firm Chemring, which has its headquarters in Whiteley, has seen its orders swell to a record £944 million after major contract wins.

Recent deals won by Chemring include a contract for $38.4million from the US Army for mine detection systems to support peacekeeping operations, as well as a $145 million deal to supply medium- and large-calibre ammunition to an unnamed Middle East customer, as reported in The News.

Orders are now 64 per cent ahead of this time last year, while sales rose 38 per cent in the three months to January, Chemring said.

The firm is on track to meet market hopes despite supplier delays hitting deliveries in its pyrotechnics business, which makes flares and battlefield illuminations.
